The Visionary Alchemist's Manifesto

I believe that magic and art are different names for the same process.

Aleister Crowley wrote that “Magick is the Art and Science of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will.”

To put it another way, magic(k), to me, is aligning intention with action to produce a result. Art follows the same formula by aligning ideas with creation to produce a work.

I believe that anyone can make magic, and anyone can make art.

Both follow the same pattern of alchemizing vision with action to will change into being and expand one’s consciousness.

Magic isn’t as difficult to define or identify as some theorists make it out to be. Neither is art. The over-intellectualizing of both achieves nothing more than gatekeeping.

I believe that the magician is an artist and the artist, a magician.

Magic and art signify change resulting from an intention: making something from nothing, willing transformation into being.

Results may (and should) vary. They can be big or small, tangible or ephemeral. There is no hierarchy of magical workings or works of art. No fancy or expensive tools are required for either.

I bring art and magic together through the practice of Visionary Alchemy.

  • Visionary — as in being imaginative or having visions of a supernatural or otherworldly nature; also, someone tapped into that mystical realm where ideas are born

  • Alchemy — as in turning one thing into another, making something out of nothing; a process once describing the search for eternal life, is this not the pursuit of the artist?

The only thing I need to be a visionary alchemist is to recognize the interconnectedness of my deepest magical potential with my drive to create.

I envision the alchemy; I alchemize the vision. All that I do is creative magic.

I embrace the ritual of creation, the esoteric significance behind my material choices, and the craft and performance that contribute to my creative and magical workings.

So mote it be.
